Three Oaks Township Regular Meeting January 14, 2008 Present: Sittig, Cummings, Jelinek, LaLone, Osburn Regular meeting opened at 7:00 No Public comments. Motion by Jelinek supported by Osburn to accept the minutes of December 10th with date correction. Motion carried. Treasurer's report stands as read. Motion by Sittig supported by Cummings to pay Township bills totaling $34,086.35 Motion carried. Correspondence was read. Department reports: Ambulance: 36 Assessor: Sales/Splits 2/1 (still under review) Building/ Mechanical: 2/1 Fire: 50 for 2007 Chief Flick questioned as to what if any thing was going to be done about the repairs needed to the fire station that he and the Supervisor discussed several months ago. He also asked about the certificates of appreciation that were to be awarded to the retired firefighters. He reported that the truck committee is still looking into a new grass rig, they are checking on a GMC compared to a Ford, he also explained all the time and hours required to be a firefighter. Motion by Sittig supported by Osburn for Trustee LaLone to work with Fire Chief Flick and a Contractor for specs on the repairs needed to the Fire Station. Motion carried. Clerk Cummings stated that the computer at the fire station was not working properly and requested permission to get estimated on a new one. Permission granted. Motion by Sittig supported by Jelinek for Fire Chief to purchase plaques for the retired firefighters not to exceed $150.00 each. Motion carried. Parks & Rec: Nothing to report Planning: Motion by Sittig supported by Cummings to reappoint Karen Seifert, Chris Mitchell and Sally Klute to the Planning Commission for another 3 year term ending Dec, 31, 20010. Police: Complaints/Citations: 50/0 Industrial Park- Sittig reported that the Schwark Drain project has been changed to an enclosed pipe per Berrien County Drain Commissioner. The Library Easement was presented. Motion by Cummings supported by LaLone to grant Salt Creek Partners LLC the easement for access for water lines and pedestrians on a portion of the Library property. The Library Board had already approved the easement. Motion carried The Libray will put a milleage proposal on the May primary election asking for 1.5 mills. Discussion on the property owned by the Township, which the Elementary School may wish to procure to build a new school. Trustee Jelinek stated she would not give the property to the school, look what they did to New Troy, making the town buy it back. The Township Attorney will be contacted as to what the Township can do with the property as per the deed. A letter was sent to the Village DDA about the parking lot behind the Township Hall. Motion by Sittig supported by LaLone that the Township would support either the DDA or the Village in developing it into a Village paved parking lot. Motion carried. Letter was received from the Conservation Club asking if we would like to participate in a septic system program by selecting a board member to be on the committee. Motion by Sittig supported by Jelinek that we will participate and that Jelinek will be the representative. Motion carried. The Three Oaks Museum Committee representative Ron Jelinek asked the board to allow them to use the townships tax exempt status to apply for a grant. Motion by Jelinek supported by LaLone to allow the museum to use the townships tax exempt status. Cummings stated she knew the Village attorney told them the couldn't do this legally and wondered why the Township would be any different. Motion to be granted with approval from the MTA attorney. Motion by Cummings supported by Jelinek to extend the February 14th tax deadline to February 28th without penalty. Motion carried. Motion by Sittig supported by Jelinek to adjourn at 8:45 . Motion carried. No Final Public Comments. The meeting was reopened to accept a bid for the repairs to the Spring Creek School.
